A man has been shot dead in the car park of a community centre in Punchbowl, in Sydney’s south-west, with police searching for the occupants of a black ute seen fleeing the scene.
Emergency services were called to the Punchbowl Community Centre on Rossmore Avenue at about 5.50pm on Wednesday, September 9, after witnesses reported hearing several gunshots.
The victim was found beside a white sedan near the entrance to the car park, which was busy at the time. Paramedics treated him at the scene, but he died from his injuries.
His identity has not yet been released.
Multiple police cars and ambulances attended, along with a police helicopter and fire crews. Officers have established a crime scene and begun examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Police said a vehicle was seen leaving the area after the attack. Investigators are appealing for anyone with information, or dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area, to contact Campsie Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
The community centre is located close to Punchbowl railway station and The Boulevarde, a busy local shopping strip.
