Marcus Rashford’s impressive return to Manchester United continued as he was widely regarded as the outstanding player in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Everton.
The England forward started at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and played for 70 minutes, repeatedly testing Everton right-back Merlin Röhl and creating openings for his team-mates.
United took the lead shortly after half-time through Bryan Mbeumo, before Tyrique George levelled for Everton. Benjamin Šeško restored the visitors’ advantage in the 88th minute, only for Ainsley Maitland-Niles to earn Everton a point with a spectacular stoppage-time strike.
Despite the result, Rashford’s performance was a clear positive for Michael Carrick. The winger had also impressed in the 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town the previous weekend, underlining the improvement in his form since returning to the United side.

The Athletic described Rashford as one of United’s best players against Ipswich before judging him to have been their best performer against Everton.
He completed several successful dribbles, beat Röhl on a number of occasions and supplied dangerous passes which United’s attack was unable to convert. The Manchester United supporters subsequently selected him as their player of the match.
Carrick also praised the forward after the game, although he revealed that Rashford had been withdrawn because he was feeling a physical problem.
“He’s done very well. As I said during the week, he’s done ever so well since he came back,” Carrick said. “I thought he looked really sharp again today and dangerous.”
The United head coach added that Rashford had created “really good opportunities” and remained “a big threat throughout the game”.
Rashford’s progress has come as he competes for a regular place in Carrick’s starting XI. Having begun both the Ipswich and Everton matches, he appears to have moved quickly from fighting his way back into contention to becoming an important part of United’s attack.
His fitness will now be monitored before United’s Champions League meeting with Sabah on Thursday, followed by the Manchester derby against Manchester City on Sunday.
