Lewis Hall has agreed a new five-year contract with Newcastle United, dealing a significant blow to Manchester United’s hopes of signing the England left-back.
Hall had emerged as United’s leading target for the position during the summer, with the Old Trafford club seeking a long-term successor to Luke Shaw. However, Newcastle repeatedly made clear that the 22-year-old was not available for transfer.
An initial enquiry from Manchester United was rejected, while Newcastle also opened discussions with Hall over improved terms. The agreement is expected to be formally announced by the club on Wednesday.
The new contract will strengthen Newcastle’s position after Hall became a key part of their plans at left-back. He joined the club initially on loan from Chelsea in 2023 before completing a permanent move the following year.
Manchester United did not sign a new left-back before the transfer window closed, despite exploring alternative options late in the window. Their interest in Hall had been expected to continue into next summer, but the fresh agreement significantly reduces the prospect of a move to Old Trafford.
