Manchester United remain confident of signing Leicester City midfielder Louis Page despite failing to complete a deal before the transfer deadline.
The 18-year-old was the subject of intense late interest from United on Tuesday, September 1, but negotiations did not produce an agreement before the 11pm cut-off. The Manchester Evening News reports that the club are nevertheless continuing to work on a possible move.
Page has been on United’s radar for much of the summer and is understood to be viewed as a player capable of developing into a first-team option at Old Trafford. Arsenal have also been monitoring the England youth international.
Transfer reporter Ben Jacobs said on deadline day that talks were ongoing but described the situation as a “race against time”. Leicester’s League One fixture against Plymouth added to the complications, with Page named in the starting line-up for the match.
Reports during the final hours of the window suggested United were prepared to pay more than £10 million for the midfielder, with a loan return to Leicester among the possible arrangements under discussion. No agreement was reached before the deadline, however.
Louis Page remains a target for Manchester United
Page has already made more than 20 senior appearances for Leicester and was recognised as the EFL Apprentice of the Year after breaking into the first team. He has also represented England at youth level.
The midfielder’s progress has attracted attention beyond Manchester, but United are believed to remain at the front of the queue. Their continued interest reflects a desire to recruit promising young players with the potential to increase in value as well as eventually contributing to the first team.
