Consultant Mark Deakin, 53, died nine days after he was found collapsed in his car, just one day after being dismissed from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.
The married father-of-two was taken to hospital in June and later died in intensive care, according to reports.
Dr Deakin had worked as a consultant in paediatric diabetes and general paediatrics at Alder Hey. He had previously worked with Lucy Letby at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
He was brought before a disciplinary hearing over messages exchanged with Letby, who was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others.
The messages reportedly included confidential details about a premature baby boy, known during Letby’s trial as Baby N. Letby was convicted of attempting to kill the child in June 2016.
Dr Deakin also arranged observational visits for Letby at Alder Hey after moving to the Liverpool children’s hospital as a locum.
He was granted anonymity during Letby’s trial, but reporting restrictions were lifted following his death, allowing him to be named.
