A Nigerian military plane carrying 32 people has crashed near a naval base in Ondo state after losing contact with air traffic control while travelling to Lagos, the aviation minister has said.
Festus Keyamo said the aircraft, carrying 25 passengers and seven crew members, disappeared after controllers lost communication at 9.13am. Attempts to re-establish contact were unsuccessful.
The Nigerian Air Force identified the aircraft as an ATR-42. Wreckage was later found near a naval base in the coastal town of Igbokoda, while search and rescue operations continued.
There was no immediate confirmation of casualties.
The crash is among Nigeria’s worst military aviation accidents in recent years and is expected to increase scrutiny of flight safety and operational readiness as authorities investigate what happened.
