Police in Broome, Western Australia, allege they discovered methylamphetamine hidden inside a McMuffin during a traffic stop at Cable Beach.
Officers searching a vehicle on 20 August reportedly found a fast-food bag containing items from several outlets. When they pulled apart the breakfast sandwich, they allegedly uncovered a small zip-lock bag filled with white powder.
The driver, a 39-year-old man from Derby, was arrested and charged with possessing a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply. He is due to appear in court later this month.
Body-worn camera footage released by Western Australia Police shows officers searching the vehicle before examining the muffin. The force later highlighted the case on its official police podcast, describing the discovery as methamphetamine concealed in a McMuffin.
Detective Senior Sergeant Trisha Stjepic said concealing drugs inside a fast-food item was unusual, although officers had increasingly found substances hidden inside vehicles.
“At times it can be awkward searching through people’s food, but unfortunately that’s part of the job,” she said.
