A 22-year-old man has been arrested after a crash in Plano, Texas, killed two people inside a Toyota RAV4, police said.
Steve Jaramillo was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated following the collision at the junction of Alma Drive and Cross Bend Road at about 7.15pm on Friday, 6 November.
Investigators said the RAV4 was turning left from Alma Drive on to Cross Bend Road when it was hit by a Ford F-150 travelling at high speed along Alma Drive.
The impact overturned the RAV4. Both vehicles then struck a traffic signal pole and a tree, according to Plano police, who said alcohol and speed were believed to have contributed to the crash.
Emergency crews found both occupants of the RAV4 unconscious. Plano Fire Rescue personnel freed them from the vehicle and attempted to save their lives, but both were pronounced dead.
The names of the victims have not been released.
The intersection was closed while officers investigated the crash. Police said further charges against Jaramillo would be considered once the inquiry was complete.
