Central Florida is facing another day of heavy showers and thunderstorms, with a 70% chance of rain across Orlando on Tuesday and above-average rainfall expected for much of the week.
The main round of wet weather is forecast to develop between midday and 8pm, after a largely dry start. A few coastal showers are possible during the morning, while isolated storms could bring torrential rain, strong winds and frequent lightning.
Patchy fog has also formed west of Orlando, particularly across Sumter, Lake and Marion counties. Visibility is only slightly reduced in most places, and the fog is expected to lift shortly after sunrise.
More rain and local flooding risk
Forecasters are warning that the saturated atmosphere could produce large amounts of rain over a short period. With parts of Central Florida already having seen substantial rainfall in recent days, waterlogged ground could lead to ponding on roads and localised flooding.
The National Weather Service said a wet pattern would persist across east-central Florida this week, with gusty winds of up to 40 to 50mph, lightning and locally heavy rain among the main hazards. Rainfall totals of 3in or more are possible across widespread areas by the end of the week. Isolated strong storms are expected on most afternoons, particularly as moisture levels remain elevated.
Early showers and downpours on Wednesday could also make for a difficult morning commute. Moisture associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly is expected to add to the unsettled conditions on Wednesday and Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to remain close to normal, with highs around 91F (33C) in Orlando and generally in the low 90s through the weekend. Despite the rain, conditions will stay humid and uncomfortable, with heat indices expected to reach the triple digits.
