Sean Ono Lennon and his long-term partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl have announced the birth of their first child, a baby boy named Aurelius.
The couple shared the news on social media on Tuesday evening, September 1, with Sean posting photographs of the newborn and writing: “Okay so…Charlotte and I would like to announce that we have indeed created a Human Bean! His name is, Aurelius! Thank you!” ([aol.com](https://www.aol.com/articles/john-lennon-son-sean-ono-082138000.html))
Charlotte, 39, also posted images of the couple with their son and offered a candid account of their first days as parents.
“We made a human! Am convinced DNA is agentic alien quaternary code,” she wrote. “The sleep deprivation only adds to the surrealism…Burping technique tips welcome. Been playing him Aphex Twin and Stravinsky. Meconium is crazy.”
Aurelius is the first grandchild of Beatles star John Lennon, who was killed outside his New York home in December 1980 when Sean was five. John’s widow, Yoko Ono, already has two grandchildren through her older daughter, Kyoko.
The news was initially revealed by Sean’s older half-brother Julian Lennon, 63, in a social media post which was later deleted.
Julian said he had been visiting London when “the most amazing thing happened in the whole wide world, I became an uncle”. He congratulated Sean and Charlotte and referred to their son as their new “Beautiful Boy”, echoing the title of John Lennon’s 1980 song written for Sean.
Sean and Charlotte have been together since 2007 and have worked together musically as the duo The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Charlotte is also a writer and musician, while Sean has produced and performed music alongside his work preserving his parents’ artistic legacy.
The brothers have previously faced speculation about a family rift, but both have publicly indicated that they remain close. Julian shared photographs of the pair together at The Dakota in Manhattan in December 2024, describing their evening as a rare chance to have dinner and talk.
