Brent Rosenkranz, a 42-year-old father from Texas, has been identified as one of two people whose bodies were recovered after a flash flood in the Grand Canyon.
His wife publicly named him on Monday, before the National Park Service confirmed on Tuesday that he was among the two hikers killed when floodwaters swept through Bright Angel Canyon on August 29. Rosenkranz and the other identified victim, 46-year-old John Giusti, were both from Granbury, Texas. Rosenkranz’s wife, Elisha, said in a statement: “It is with a broken heart that I share the passing of my husband, Brent Rosenkranz, while on his final adventure, a hike at the Grand Canyon.”
Rosenkranz was a lifelong martial artist, an instructor and the owner of a martial arts school. His family said he was a husband and father of three sons who had dedicated much of his life to teaching and mentoring young people. The National Park Service said one member of the hiking group remained missing and that search-and-rescue operations were continuing. Teams from the park service, Coconino County Search and Rescue and the US Border Patrol were involved in the operation.
