Brisbane Lions were closing in on victory over Adelaide Crows at the Gabba, leading 138-73 with five minutes remaining. Levi Ashcroft added to the margin with a goal as the home side pressed for a place in the preliminary final.
The match was played in front of a listed sell-out crowd of 36,026 in Brisbane.
If the Lions hold on, Kayo Sports is predicting that they will face Hawthorn at the MCG next Saturday in a twilight fixture, expected to start at about 5.15pm.
That scheduling would allow Brisbane to fly home to Brisbane that night if they win. The final match times are yet to be confirmed.
