A manhunt is under way in Victoria, Australia, after three people were allegedly attacked with an axe at a property in the Gippsland town of Tyers.
Police have issued a warrant for 48-year-old Peter O’Ryan, who is known to the victims and remains at large. The injured people are understood to be his parents and brother.
Emergency services were called to the property on Cowies Road at about 12.30pm on Saturday, September 5. Police allege that an argument broke out before Mr O’Ryan attacked his brother and then his parents.
The two men, aged 76 and 47, were airlifted to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne with life-threatening injuries. A 74-year-old woman was also taken to hospital with critical injuries, with all three reported to be receiving intensive medical treatment.
Victoria Police said the suspected weapon was believed to be a blunt axe or tomahawk, although this had not been confirmed. Detective Senior Sergeant Rod Findlay said Mr O’Ryan was believed to still be armed and warned members of the public not to approach him.
Mr O’Ryan is described as being of medium build with dark grey hair. He was last seen wearing a distinctive black-and-mustard-coloured jacket and is known to spend time around Morwell, Traralgon and Tyers.
Police, including a helicopter and specialist search teams, were examining rural properties, sheds and barns in the area. Officers said Mr O’Ryan had fled the scene on foot and urged him to contact police or surrender at a station.
