A three-month-old girl has died in a wooded area near Cheslyn Hay, Staffordshire, after emergency services were called to reports of a child in cardiac arrest.
Staffordshire Police said officers and paramedics were sent to land off Strawberry Lane at about 8.45am on Saturday, September 5. An air ambulance also attended, but the baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death is being treated as unexplained while detectives establish the circumstances. A police cordon remained in place in the woodland on Sunday as officers continued their inquiries.
Detective Inspector Katie Gregory said the investigation was at an early stage and that the incident was believed to be isolated.
She said police understood the child’s family had been camping in the area.
Officers are expected to remain in the area while their investigation continues, with the presence intended both to support inquiries and reassure local residents.
