Students starting university in 2027 will be the first to face annual tuition fees of more than £10,000, with the maximum charge for standard full-time courses in England set to rise to £10,050.
The new limit will apply from the 2027–28 academic year, following an increase to £9,790 for courses beginning in 2026–27. The figures apply to approved providers with an Office for Students access and participation plan and a Teaching Excellence Framework award. Eligible students will still be able to apply for a tuition fee loan covering the full cost of their course, with the money paid directly to their university or college. University tuition fees will vary by provider
Not every institution will be able to charge the £10,050 maximum. Universities with an access and participation plan but without a Teaching Excellence Framework award will face a standard full-time limit of £9,780 in 2027–28.
Lower limits will apply to providers without the relevant access and participation plan or teaching award. For those institutions, the maximum standard fee will be £6,520, while accelerated degree courses at some providers will cost up to £12,060. Students taking a sandwich placement year will generally be charged up to 20 per cent of the applicable full-time fee, while those studying overseas or undertaking a Turing year can be charged up to 15 per cent.
