Harry Wilson will return to captain Australia from the back row against Argentina as the Wallabies chase a fifth consecutive victory in Mendoza.
The Queensland Reds forward has been recalled at number eight alongside Fraser McReight and Rob Valetini, restoring a familiar and highly competitive combination for Sunday’s second Test against the Pumas.
Wilson understands the demands of Test rugby leave little room for unnecessary invention. His priority will be to provide control, physicality and leadership as Australia attempt to build on a narrow win in the opening match of the series.
The Wallabies are seeking five straight wins for the first time since 2021, having ended a run of six successive defeats with victories under coach Les Kiss. Australia’s new head coach remains unbeaten after three Tests.
Kiss has made eight changes to the starting side and 14 overall, with Wilson’s return among the most significant selections. Allan Alaalatoa, who captained the team in the first Argentina match after Wilson was rested, makes way for the regular skipper.
Australia have also reshaped their backline, with Ben Donaldson handed his first start at fly-half for two years. Carter Gordon drops to the bench, while Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii returns to the centres alongside Len Ikitau.
Tom Wright will win his 50th cap at full-back, while Filipo Daugunu starts on the wing. The Wallabies will meet an Argentina side that has also altered its line-up in an attempt to level the two-Test series.
For Wilson, the contest represents another test of his ability to balance the responsibilities of captaincy with the hard, disciplined work required in a back row where Australia now have several credible options.
