A former Walker County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested in Georgia after investigators alleged he accessed criminal-history records without authorisation and distributed body-camera footage and photographs from active cases.
Amadou Diaw, 33, of LaFayette, was arrested on 22 October and booked into Walker County Jail, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
He faces charges including unauthorised disclosure of criminal-history record information, computer theft, computer trespass, violation of oath of office and misdemeanour obstruction.
The investigation began on 30 September, when the Walker County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to examine allegations that Diaw had misused the Georgia Crime Information Center system to obtain criminal-history information.
GBI agents said their inquiry found that Diaw had illegally accessed and obtained records through the database. Investigators also alleged that he distributed body-camera footage and photographs linked to ongoing law-enforcement investigations.
Officials have not said which cases or individuals were affected, nor have they disclosed who allegedly received the material. The authorities have also not provided a motive for the alleged access and distribution.
The investigation remains active and will be passed to the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution once it is complete.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact the GBI tip line on 800-597-TIPS (8477), submit details through the bureau’s online tip service or use its “See Something, Send Something” mobile application.
