Milwaukee Brewers seized an early advantage over the Tampa Bay Rays in World Series Game 1, leading 2-0 after three innings at American Family Field on Friday night.
The Brewers struck in the opening inning after Christian Yelich drove in the first run with a triple before William Contreras followed with an RBI single. Milwaukee added a second run as its bats continued to put pressure on Tampa Bay starter Nick Martinez.
Jacob Misiorowski made history with the first pitch of the Fall Classic, sending a 103.5mph fastball towards Rays batter Yandy DÃaz. The delivery, recorded by Major League Baseball’s Statcast system, surpassed the previous World Series record of 103.2mph set by Aroldis Chapman in 2016.
Misiorowski’s first inning was not without danger. Tampa Bay threatened with runners on base, but Junior Caminero lined into a double play started by Brewers third baseman David Hamilton and completed through second baseman Brice Turang to end the inning without a run.
The 24-year-old right-hander relied heavily on his fastball, reaching at least 100mph 10 times during the opening frame. He held the Rays scoreless through the first three innings as Milwaukee sought to protect its early lead.
Milwaukee, appearing in the World Series for the first time since 1982, entered the best-of-seven series with home-field advantage after a 103-win regular season. Tampa Bay, in its first Fall Classic appearance since 2020, is seeking the first championship in franchise history.
