Google has begun rolling out its September 2026 Google System updates, bringing changes to Google Play services, the Play Store and Android System Intelligence on phones and Wear OS devices.
The release includes new Google Wallet support for adding physical public transport cards and their balances using NFC, along with changes to location sharing, parental supervision and the way apps are presented in the Play Store.
Google Play services updates
Google Play services version 26.35 introduces safety status information to the location-sharing API on Android phones. The change is designed to provide additional context about shared locations.
Google is also improving supervision tools across phones and Wear OS. A new part of the Kids Auth module will manage and display regulatory compliance notices on Android devices.
Google Wallet users can now use NFC to add physical transit card passes and check their balances. The update also adds a redesigned confirmation screen after a card has been added successfully.
New Play Store features
Play Store version 53.1 adds short descriptions to the similar apps section of app details pages, highlighting a key feature of each recommended application.
Users browsing recommendations through the Play Store’s other-device section will also be able to see which devices have an app installed.
Google is introducing a new navigation bar on Play home pages, allowing users to move between more areas of interest directly from the main screens.
Android System Intelligence versions B.29 and C.7, released on September 3, contain bug fixes and general maintenance changes.
Google System updates are delivered separately from a full Android operating system upgrade and can reach compatible devices at different times. Features listed in the monthly release notes may be introduced gradually, so they may not appear immediately on every phone, tablet or wearable.
On a Pixel phone, users can check for available updates by opening Settings, tapping their name at the top, selecting Google services, choosing the All services tab, then opening Privacy and security followed by System services.
