Arsenal are considering a move for Monaco right-back Vanderson, with the Brazilian defender being kept under close observation ahead of a possible transfer.
Vanderson, 25, has impressed in Ligue 1 and is regarded as a player who could attract interest from a bigger club. Arsenal have previously been linked with the defender, while Ivan Fresneda has also been mentioned as a potential option for the position.
Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur said Arsenal had continued to assess Vanderson in recent weeks and described him as one of the club’s long-standing targets.
“Arsenal remain interested in Monaco right-back Vanderson. The club have continued to assess the Brazilian defender in recent weeks, keeping him under close watch as one of their long-standing targets,” Konur said.
Arsenal’s right-back options
Any move for Vanderson would form part of Arsenal’s longer-term planning at right-back. Mikel Arteta currently has Jurrien Timber and Ben White available in the role, but both players have experienced significant injuries in recent times.
Arsenal retained White this summer despite uncertainty over his future, although the 28-year-old may not have many years remaining at what would generally be considered his peak.
Vanderson’s reported strengths include aerial duels and ball interceptions, qualities that could appeal to Arteta as he considers whether to strengthen the position. It remains unclear whether the Monaco defender is Arsenal’s leading target or one of several players under consideration.
