Alexis Mac Allister is expected to remain at Liverpool this season, but Fabrizio Romano has warned that the midfielder’s long-term future could become a major issue in 2027. Romano said intermediaries had proposed Mac Allister to Manchester City during the summer transfer window as an alternative to Enzo Fernandez. City, however, continued to prioritise the Chelsea midfielder and no move for Mac Allister materialised. The Argentina international also had no desire to leave Anfield. Romano said Mac Allister remained deeply attached to Liverpool, their supporters and his team-mates, and was determined to continue his career on Merseyside. Alexis Mac Allister…

A fossilised tooth found in a San Mateo County creek has been identified as an exceptionally well-preserved molar from an adult Pacific mastodon that lived at least 10,000 years ago. The discovery was made this summer by geomorphologist Brigid Lynch, who was carrying out field surveys linked to a habitat improvement project for the threatened California red-legged frog. Lynch initially believed the object, partly submerged in a creek in a Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District preserve, was an unusually shaped rock. Paleontologists later confirmed it was an intact Pacific mastodon molar. The tooth measures about 8.5in long, 7in deep and…

Residents in the state are bracing for the cost of imported goods to rise as Washington and Ottawa impose fresh measures on each other’s products. The dispute has put trade policy at the centre of political debate ahead of November’s midterm elections. Michigan’s economy is closely tied to Canada, particularly through the automotive industry. The state is also home to competitive contests that could help decide control of the US Senate and…

The whale’s carcass has since been removed for a necropsy and further laboratory tests,…
