Audi has revived the A2 name for a compact electric hatchback that will become the German manufacturer’s entry point into the EV market, with prices starting at £32,200 in the UK and a claimed range of up to 401 miles.
The Audi A2 e-tron is due to open for UK orders in October 2026, with the first customer deliveries expected in early 2027. It will be built at Audi’s main plant in Ingolstadt, Germany.
The longest-range version uses an 84kWh battery and produces 231PS, while the wider line-up will offer four power outputs ranging from 170PS to 326PS. Audi’s UK information quotes a maximum WLTP range of 397 miles for the model, while the company’s global figures give the equivalent top figure as 646 kilometres, or about 401 miles.
Audi says the A2 e-tron is its most efficient production car to date, using as little as 12.8kWh of electricity per 100km. Its streamlined body has a drag coefficient of 0.24, helped by features including aerodynamic wheels, an enclosed underbody and an active air intake.
The entry-level car will have a 52kWh battery and a range of up to 262 miles, while a 61kWh version is expected to manage up to 320 miles. Charging capability rises through the range, with the largest-battery models able to accept up to 183kW of direct-current power and recharge from 10 to 80 per cent in about 29 minutes.
Inside, Audi has focused on making the small hatchback practical, with a spacious cabin, a panoramic glass roof and a dashboard incorporating an 11.9in digital instrument display and a 12.8in central touchscreen.
The new model will also offer bidirectional charging, allowing it to supply electricity to external devices or, where compatible equipment is installed, help power a home. Audi describes the A2 e-tron as a model designed specifically for European customers as it seeks to broaden access to its electric range.
