Police in Sydney have foiled a suspected gangland hit in the city’s south-west after arresting two men accused of using a drone to surveil a property ahead of a planned shooting.
Officers were alerted to intelligence suggesting an attack was being organised in Rossmore and flooded the area with police on Thursday night.
In the early hours of Friday, officers spotted a drone flying above a property. Investigators suspect it was being used to monitor the location before the alleged attack could be carried out.
Detectives from the specialist Task Force Falcon arrested two men nearby. They were taken to Liverpool Police Station, where they were questioned throughout the day.
The pair were expected to be charged with coordinating surveillance for a serious offence and participating in a criminal group.
The arrests came as Sydney dealt with three fatal shootings in the space of 10 days. Police believe their intervention prevented a fourth deadly attack.
