The social media influencer gave evidence alongside his brother, Tristan, at a hearing on August 27 as they sought release from custody while fighting allegations including rape and trafficking for sexual exploitation. Asked about the aggressive and misogynistic material associated with his online image, Tristan Tate said: “I play a character.” He also claimed that people did not take Andrew’s “Top G” persona seriously.…

Former X Factor contestants have followed sharply different paths since their memorable appearances on the ITV talent show, with some going on to enjoy major chart success while others struggled to establish lasting careers in music. The programme has provided a launchpad for performers who later became familiar names in the charts. For others, however, the attention generated by a standout audition or dramatic live performance proved difficult to convert into a sustained presence in the music industry. While a number of contestants continued recording and performing after leaving the show, others moved away from the spotlight altogether. Their contrasting…

Australian employers have been warned that dress codes designed to protect a company’s image could expose them to discrimination claims if they unfairly disadvantage workers because of their age, sex, race, religion or disability. Businesses can generally set rules covering uniforms, grooming, tattoos, piercings and facial hair. But workplace lawyers say those requirements are more difficult to defend when they are based on personal taste or an idea of what an employee should look like, rather than safety, hygiene or a genuine requirement of the role. The issue has returned to the spotlight after overseas reports alleged that luxury group…

Russia’s shadow war against Europe has spread across a widening network of military bases, airports, ports and energy sites, according to a new assessment of suspected drone activity linked to the Kremlin. The warning comes after Germany formally blamed Moscow for an attempted attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport, where an explosives-laden drone was discovered close to a Ukrainian cargo aircraft on August 4. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said on September 1 that investigators had identified features of the drone, including its configuration, components, explosives and detonator, which were known from previous Russian hybrid operations. Berlin described the incident as part…

Manchester United could revive their interest in Aurélien Tchouaméni in January if the midfielder’s uncertain position at Real Madrid develops into a transfer opportunity. The France international was reportedly one of United’s leading midfield targets during the summer, although no deal materialised. The club instead added Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos to strengthen the position. However, reports from Spain suggest Tchouaméni’s ongoing fitness problems have created frustration at the Bernabéu, with new Real Madrid manager José Mourinho yet to select him this season. Fichajes claims the situation could leave the 26-year-old available if the Spanish side decide to…
