OpenAI is testing a ChatGPT feature that could learn a user’s writing style by examining examples from their connected apps.
Called “Writing Style”, the tool is being made available to a limited group of users. Its introductory screen says ChatGPT will “write in your voice by referencing examples from your connected apps”.
Users can choose examples from three areas: messaging, documents and email. The services listed in the trial include Slack, Google Drive, Notion and Gmail.
Once set up, the feature could allow ChatGPT to draw on a user’s existing correspondence and documents when creating new material. That would remove the need to repeatedly describe a preferred tone or paste writing samples into a conversation.

The approach differs from Anthropic’s Claude Styles, which allows users to upload or paste examples and generate a customised writing style based on them.
OpenAI’s experiment instead appears designed to use writing already stored in linked services. This could give the chatbot access to different forms of a user’s communication, from short workplace messages to emails and longer documents.
The company has confirmed that it is testing Writing Style, but has not announced when the feature will be made available more widely.
