A DeKalb County police officer was injured during a shooting at an apartment complex in Georgia, triggering an hours-long SWAT standoff before a 23-year-old man was arrested.
Officers had been called to the Reserve at Stone Creek complex on South Harrison Road at about 11.23 in response to a domestic dispute. Police said the suspect opened fire as they arrived, leaving one officer injured.
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and later released. Authorities have not said whether the officer was hit by gunfire or hurt in another way during the response.
SWAT team called to DeKalb County standoff
After the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment, prompting the deployment of the DeKalb County Police SWAT team and Bomb Squad.
Dozens of police vehicles surrounded the property while residents were kept outside during the lockdown. The standoff continued for several hours as officers worked to bring the situation to a safe end.
Police eventually removed the suspect from the apartment and took him into custody. He was identified as Samuel Norris, aged 23.
Norris has been charged with aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer. Further charges relating to the original domestic dispute are expected to be considered as the investigation continues.
