Drake’s 40th birthday party in New York featured a surprise performance by the Backstreet Boys, a red Ferrari and a prize giveaway reportedly offering up to $1 million.
The rapper celebrated his milestone birthday at Casa Cipriani in Manhattan on Friday night, ahead of his birthday on Saturday October 24. He arrived in a sparkling black tuxedo jacket, bow tie and wide-leg trousers.
More than 400 guests were reportedly present, with Backstreet Boys members Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough among those seen arriving at the event.
The group later surprised Drake with a performance of their hit I Want It That Way. Drake joined them on stage and sang along.
The appearance continued a musical reunion between the rapper and the band. In 2022, Drake made a surprise appearance at the Backstreet Boys’ concert in Toronto, where he performed the same song with them.
Drake receives a red Ferrari at birthday celebration
Drake was also presented with a red Ferrari outside Casa Cipriani during the celebrations. He stopped to pose for photographs with fans before leaving the venue.
During the party, he reflected on reaching the age of 40 in an emotional speech to the crowd.
“Tonight is just about being alive, staying alive,” he said.
The celebrations also included luxury gifts for guests, with designer handbags from Chanel and Hermès reportedly handed out.
Drake is also said to have arranged a game-show-style giveaway, with cash prizes ranging from tens of thousands of dollars to as much as $1 million. It was unclear whether the top prize was won.
The New York party followed birthday gatherings in Drake’s hometown of Toronto, including an event at the CN Tower. He later travelled to New York with his mother, Sandi Graham.
The milestone was accompanied by major career news, with the RIAA announcing 30 additional certifications for Drake. He became the first artist to pass 350 million certified units in the United States.
