The Goo Goo Dolls will perform at half-time when the Buffalo Bills host the Kansas City Chiefs in a Thanksgiving night game at Highmark Stadium.
The appearance will mark the first time the Bills have hosted a Thanksgiving Day fixture. The game, featuring Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce for the Chiefs, will be shown on NBC.
The choice of performer has a strong connection to the home team. The Goo Goo Dolls were formed in Buffalo, while frontmen John Rzeznik and Robby Takac are both natives of the city.
The band is also celebrating its 40th anniversary and has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. The Bills used their song Iris in a montage following the final game at their former stadium last season.
It will not be the Goo Goo Dolls’ first Thanksgiving Day half-time performance. They previously headlined the show during Detroit’s game in 2007.
The Buffalo performance will be part of a full day of football and live music. Miranda Lambert is due to perform at the Philadelphia Eagles’ game against the Dallas Cowboys earlier on Thursday, while U2 will appear at half-time during the Green Bay Packers’ meeting with the Los Angeles Rams the previous day.
