A medical jet carrying six people has gone missing off Nantucket while travelling from Bermuda to Boston, prompting a search-and-rescue operation involving aircraft and surface vessels.
The Federal Aviation Administration lost contact with the Gulfstream G-100 at about 1am local time on Saturday and issued a Search and Rescue Alert Notice for the aircraft.
The US Coast Guard said the search was under way off the coast of Nantucket. The jet is registered to Latitutde Air Ambulance, according to its tail number.
Flight tracking data showed the aircraft departed at about 11.40pm on Friday and disappeared after roughly one hour and 45 minutes in the air. It had been due to arrive at Boston’s Logan International Airport at about 1.30am.
The tracking information indicated that the plane descended rapidly from about 24,000ft to 11,000ft before contact was lost.
