Liam Lawson will replace the injured Isack Hadjar at Red Bull for a second consecutive race when the Formula One championship reaches Monza for this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.
The New Zealander stepped in for Hadjar at the Dutch Grand Prix and will again drive alongside Max Verstappen at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza from 4 to 6 September.
Red Bull said Hadjar was continuing to make “encouraging progress” after suffering a wrist injury during the summer break, but added that it would take “no unnecessary risks” with his return to competition.
Lawson scored a seventh-place finish at Zandvoort on his return to the senior Red Bull team, securing six points after being called up at short notice.
Yuki Tsunoda will once again take Lawson’s place at Racing Bulls, where he will partner Arvid Lindblad for the Italian Grand Prix weekend.
Lawson previously raced for Red Bull at the start of the 2025 season before being moved back to its sister team after two rounds. He said adapting to the RB22 in limited time had been challenging but that he had enjoyed the opportunity.
Red Bull reserve driver Ayumu Iwasa is also due to take part in first practice at Monza on Friday, driving Verstappen’s car.
