A 44-year-old woman from Lakeland has died after a fatal crash on Interstate 4 near Daryl Carter Parkway in Orange County, Florida.
The collision happened at about 7.45am on Sunday, 6 September, as the woman was travelling eastbound in a 2017 Honda Accord, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Investigators believe she may have suffered a medical episode, causing the car to leave the road and enter the grass median near the Daryl Carter Parkway exit. The Honda then continued through an intersection, struck a kerb and hit a concrete barrier beside the eastbound entrance ramp.
The vehicle caught fire after the impact. Florida’s official traffic incident log recorded the fatality at the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp at mile marker 70, where the ramp was temporarily blocked.
The driver was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. A passenger was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Troopers are also investigating whether the Honda was involved in an earlier collision near mile marker 69 with a 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan. No injuries were reported in that crash.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
