Lake County coroner attends Lowell standoff scene
The Lake County coroner’s office arrived at the property later in the evening. Neighbours said they believed the man who lived at the house had died, but no official confirmation had been issued.
Police were seen removing bags of evidence from the home before the scene was cleared at about 7pm. Officials have not said whether anybody else was inside the property or whether any arrests were made.
Residents said they had not heard gunfire or other loud noises during the standoff, and the surrounding neighbourhood was not evacuated.
Neighbours described the resident as a man in his 30s who lived at the house with his dog. They said he was regarded as a friendly neighbour who loaned tools and regularly stopped to talk, adding that although he owned firearms, he had not previously caused problems in the area.
The Lowell Police Department and other agencies had not released further details about the incident by Thursday night. The circumstances that led to the SWAT response remain unclear.
