Prince William has revealed that he once dreamed of becoming a DJ during an appearance on the BBC’s Graham Norton Show, where he also spoke about his admiration for filmmaker Christopher Nolan.
The Prince of Wales, 44, joined actors Cate Blanchett and Hannah Waddingham on the sofa for the programme, which was due to air on Friday. His appearance is part of a series of less formal engagements aimed at connecting with younger audiences.
Asked how he relaxes, William said he enjoys watching The Celebrity Traitors with his family, while films and music are among his own interests.
“I’m a big fan of everything Christopher Nolan does. His films are fantastic — The Dark Knight series is psychologically dark and deep and I absolutely love that,” he said.
“He takes concepts that are completely out there and makes them incredibly entertaining.”
William said that, before accepting his future role as King, he had wanted to become a policeman. “Then I went through a phase of wanting to be a DJ — I wasn’t very good,” he added.
He also discussed The Earthshot Prize, which he established six years ago to award five winners STG1 million each to fund ideas aimed at protecting the environment. William said the initiative was intended to bring optimism to an issue that could otherwise feel depressing.
“There are some amazing people out there doing things to protect the world,” he said.
