Secret Service drones are being flown over downtown Dallas as federal and local agencies tighten security ahead of the Republican Midterm Convention at the American Airlines Center.
The two-day event begins on Wednesday, September 9, and is expected to draw President Donald Trump, senior Republican figures and thousands of visitors to the city.
The aerial surveillance is part of a wider security operation involving the Secret Service, FBI, US Customs and Border Protection, the Transportation Security Administration and Dallas police.
Officials have warned that drone flights will be restricted around the convention during the event. A temporary flight restriction has been established, meaning unauthorised unmanned aircraft will not be permitted to operate in the protected area.
Members of the public have been advised to check official aviation notices before flying a drone. Federal agencies have warned that operators who breach the restrictions could face enforcement action.
Security measures on the ground include road closures, checkpoints and controlled access around the American Airlines Center. Residents, businesses and event workers inside the secure zone have been asked to follow special procedures to enter the area.
