The Bay Area’s heat event has ended, with cooler conditions expected across the region on Friday, October 9, after a spell of temperatures well above seasonal averages.
Forecasters are predicting partly sunny skies before conditions become brighter later in the day. Highs are expected to range from the low 60s along cooler coastal areas to the upper 80s inland.
The National Weather Service said a heat advisory covering much of the interior Bay Area and Central Coast remained in force until 10pm on Thursday, when the hottest conditions were expected to ease.
Temperatures inland had been running between 10 and 20F above seasonal averages, while areas close to the coast remained cooler under the influence of a shallow marine layer.
Further cooling is forecast from Saturday, when temperatures are expected to fall below seasonal averages across the Bay Area and Central Coast. The National Weather Service said cooler conditions could persist into early next week.
In the San Francisco Bay shoreline area, Friday’s forecast calls for highs in the 70s to low 80s, while parts of the East Bay interior could still reach the mid-80s.
