Donald Trump has delivered remarks at the Pentagon to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, speaking at the site where hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 77.
The president addressed families of victims, military personnel and other guests at the Arlington, Virginia, ceremony on Friday, September 11, 2026, as the United States commemorated the nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks.
Flight 77 struck the Pentagon shortly after 9.30am, killing people aboard the aircraft and inside the building. The attack was one of four coordinated hijackings that also targeted the World Trade Center in New York and ended with the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
Mr Trump’s appearance formed part of nationwide commemorations marking a quarter of a century since the attacks, with ceremonies also taking place at the former World Trade Center site in New York and the Flight 93 memorial in Pennsylvania.
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York held its annual ceremony with relatives reading the names of those killed. Moments of silence were observed to mark the attacks on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93, as well as those who later died from illnesses linked to the aftermath of the attacks.
