Google’s August 2026 system updates bring a series of new cross-device features to Android phones, tablets and computers, alongside changes to Google Play, Wallet and Wear OS.
The monthly releases cover Google Play services, the Play Store, Android WebView and other system components. Availability will vary by device, region and account, and features listed in the changelog may take time to reach users.
August 2026 Google system updates add cross-device tools
The most notable changes in Google Play services version 26.34 are focused on connectivity between Android phones and computers. Users can access files stored on their phone from a laptop, while phone notifications can be viewed and managed from a connected computer or tablet.
Google has also improved eSIM transfers between devices and added an artificial-intelligence-led process to guide people through setting up a new Android phone.
Earlier August updates expanded the same cross-device functions. Quick Start can help users set up a new computer using an existing Android device, while a new Tap to share feature allows phones to exchange contact details, photos, videos, links and locations by tapping them together or using other gestures.
Google Play services version 26.32 also introduced the ability to access phone apps from a computer and allowed users to enable beta features through Cross Devices Services settings.
On Wear OS, Google Location Sharing can now be managed from a central page for supported Google apps. A separate update is designed to make workout routes more accurate by processing raw location measurements on Google’s servers.
Google Play Store changes search and recommendations
The August Google system updates also make the Play Store more focused on discovery. Search results can now surface books and comics, as well as apps and games connected to the content shown in a photograph.
Users may also see subscription and monetisation options directly in the store’s Where to Watch experience, while a Creator Edit section highlights trusted creators to support content recommendations.
Other Play Store changes include video highlights within Ask Play, curated groups of complementary apps after an installation, and improved Google Play Protect detection of potentially harmful applications.
On larger screens, the store now highlights quality apps on its home and search pages and allows users to open app details directly from Top Charts. Tablet users can also find content from their installed apps within the Play Store.
Google has added audiobook sample sections to app home pages and introduced league-specific sports carousels for major events, including the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, linking users with relevant streaming providers.
Wallet and Android WebView receive further updates
Google Wallet gains an events card section for accessing passes, along with an improved experience for Wallet passes. The update also adds push provisioning support for age credentials and lets users edit an amount when making Pix payments through a QR code.
Android WebView version 153 includes security, privacy and bug-fix updates, as well as a new option for developers to suggest how web audio should be processed. The change is intended to help apps displaying web content choose an appropriate audio rendering size.
Google has also issued maintenance updates for Android System Intelligence and Private Compute Services, while Android’s underlying system-management and diagnostic services receive stability and updateability improvements.
Users can check for Google system updates by opening Settings, selecting their Google services section, then choosing All services, Privacy & security and System services. The precise menu names may differ between Android devices.
