Authorities in California are seeking information about a 2017 attack in Simi Valley after investigators arrested a man they allege was among several masked suspects involved in the assault.
Ricardo Jimenez-Garcia, 39, was arrested on September 9, nearly nine years after the incident, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. Criminal charges have since been filed against him in connection with the case.
The attack allegedly took place at about 4.10am on September 21, 2017, as a woman walked along Galena Avenue on her way to work. Investigators say several men physically attacked her while wearing masks from the film Scream to conceal their identities.
A knife was reportedly used during the assault. The suspects fled afterwards and the woman called 911, prompting a response from the Simi Valley Police Department.
Initial investigative leads were pursued, but the case eventually went cold. The district attorney’s investigators later identified Jimenez-Garcia as a suspected participant and made the arrest earlier this year.
The other men alleged to have been involved have not been publicly identified. Officials have not disclosed what new evidence led investigators to Jimenez-Garcia.
Anyone who witnessed the attack, recognises Jimenez-Garcia or believes they may have been targeted in a similar incident is asked to contact Ventura County District Attorney’s investigator Yumi Kirk on (805) 477-1638.
