Moisture linked to Hurricane Marie is expected to bring scattered rain and showers to parts of Arizona over the Labor Day weekend, while temperatures in Phoenix remain slightly below average.
The National Weather Service said tropical moisture would continue moving into south-eastern Arizona on Friday, with showers and a few thunderstorms possible around the foothills and higher ground east of Phoenix.
Rain chances are forecast to shift westwards into south-western Arizona and south-eastern California on Saturday and Sunday. Phoenix and the surrounding lower desert could see isolated afternoon showers or storms, although the likelihood remains limited.
Forecasters said rainfall totals across the western part of the region should remain light through Sunday, with the risk of heavy rain expected to be low. Increasing cloud cover is also likely to help keep temperatures near or slightly below normal for early September.
Warmer conditions are expected to return at the start of next week as the tropical moisture moves away and temperatures rise above average.
