SNAP recipients in Bexar County, Texas, have until 17 September 2026 to apply for replacement benefits if food was lost or destroyed during recent storms, Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) have announced.
The extension was approved by the US Department of Agriculture after severe weather and power outages affected households in the county. The deadline for reporting food loss has been extended from 10 days to 20 days.
Eligible applicants should have replacement funds added to their Texas Lone Star Cards within two business days of their request being received.

SNAP recipients can request help by calling 2-1-1, selecting their preferred language and then choosing option 7. Applications can also be made at a local HHSC office.
Details of nearby offices are available through the Your Texas Benefits service by selecting “Find an Office”.
“Recent storms and power outages have made it harder for many families in Bexar County to access healthy food,” said Stephanie Muth, executive commissioner of Texas Health and Human Services.
She thanked federal officials for helping to make replacement benefits available to affected households.
Abbott said the assistance would help families replace food lost or destroyed while Texas continued to provide support following the severe weather and flooding.
People enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, known as WIC, may also qualify for replacement benefits for food bought with September WIC funds and lost because of storm damage or a power outage.
WIC clients must contact their local WIC office by 30 September 2026. Details of local offices are available through the Texas WIC programme.
People affected by the storms can call 2-1-1 and select option 1 for information about local food, shelter and other disaster resources.
