Chicago is set for a bright and mild Labor Day, with temperatures reaching about 25C (77F) before a warmer spell pushes highs into the low 30s on Tuesday.
Mostly sunny skies and comfortable humidity are expected across the city on Monday, offering favourable conditions for outdoor plans as the unofficial end of summer is marked. Temperatures will fall to around 19C (66F) overnight, with cooler spots possibly dipping into the mid-teens.
The National Weather Service in Chicago forecasts partly sunny conditions on Tuesday and a high of about 31C (87F). A southerly breeze could produce gusts of up to 24kph.
The week’s main chance of rain is expected late on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service puts the chance of showers and thunderstorms at between 70% and 80%, with the wettest conditions likely before early afternoon.
Wednesday will remain warm, reaching around 29C (84F), before skies clear. Mostly sunny weather is then forecast for Thursday and Friday, with temperatures easing back to the high 20s and low 30s Celsius.
