A husband and wife are expected to recover after being struck by lightning while walking along the West Orange Trail in Winter Garden, Florida, police said.
The couple, both in their 40s, were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center as trauma alerts after emergency crews responded near Plant Street at about 7.22pm on Wednesday, 2 September.
Winter Garden Fire Rescue crews found a man and a woman unconscious on the ground, according to department chief Jose P Gainza Jr. One of them was not breathing and CPR was administered before additional rescue teams arrived.
Lightning activity was recorded near the trail shortly before the emergency, between Lakeview and Brayton roads. Earlier reports said officials had not confirmed whether the couple had been directly struck or injured in another way.
The pair were initially described as being in a critical condition, but police later said they were expected to recover.
