Both directions of the Cross Island Parkway in Queens were closed after a major crash left six people in hospital, including two with critical injuries.
The collision happened near 154th Street, close to the approach to the Whitestone Bridge, during the Labor Day weekend.
The New York City Fire Department said it received reports of the crash at about 10.15pm on Saturday, September 5. Emergency crews took six people to hospital for treatment.
New York City Emergency Management said the southbound lanes had been shut shortly before 9.45pm. The northbound carriageway was closed around 20 minutes later, bringing traffic in both directions to a standstill.
Drivers were advised to consider alternative routes while the emergency response continued. Officials had not said when the Cross Island Parkway would reopen.
