A 27-year-old Deltona woman has been arrested after police said she body-slammed another woman head-first into a road during a fight in DeLand, leaving the victim critically injured.
Tishana A. Anglade was taken into custody on Tuesday, 1 September, and charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability and resisting an officer without violence.
DeLand police were called shortly before 3pm to the junction of East Rich Avenue and North Boston Avenue, where officers found Anglade and the other woman fighting, according to an arrest affidavit.
An officer said he saw Anglade lift the woman and drive her head and neck into the asphalt. The victim appeared to suffer a seizure after hitting the ground.
Emergency crews found her unconscious but breathing. Volusia County EMS took her to Halifax Health as a trauma alert, where hospital staff later told investigators she had been intubated and remained in a critical condition.
Police said Anglade then ran towards a nearby scooter and tried to leave. She stopped after an officer repeatedly ordered her to halt and warned that she would be stunned with a Taser.
During questioning, Anglade told investigators that the other woman had attacked her first and punched her in the face. She said the pair had been having problems and claimed the woman had indicated that she wanted to fight.
Further details reported in the arrest report suggested the dispute had continued for about a year. Anglade also told officers she had been riding the scooter with her seven-year-old daughter, whom she left with the girl’s grandparents before returning to meet the other woman.
The victim has not been publicly identified. Her name was withheld from the affidavit under Florida’s Marsy’s Law, which protects the privacy of crime victims.
The investigation by the DeLand Police Department remains ongoing.
