Donald Trump Jr. has privately opposed his father’s war in Iran, according to a report citing people who have spoken directly with him, despite his public support for the US president.
Two people told The Atlantic that Trump Jr has voiced his opposition to the conflict on several occasions and has opposed it since the beginning.
They said he had also made his views known to Donald Trump. However, a person close to the president’s son said he would not publicly break with his father over the issue.
“I would never publicly break with my dad on an issue like this,” the person said, adding: “But I can’t imagine anyone who knows Don would be surprised by his personal views on the subject.”
The report said Trump Jr did not want the United States to enter another war in the Middle East. It also noted his close relationship with Charlie Kirk, who opposed the Iran war before his death.
Trump Jr’s spokesman declined to comment, while the White House did not respond directly to questions about the president’s son.
A White House official said Iran had been “decimated”, adding: “One way or the other, the conflict in Iran will be over very soon.”
