A 16-year-old dog allegedly taken from her family’s garden in Warren, Michigan, has been found safe and returned home after being discovered with apparent chemical burns.
Ellie, a five-pound Yorkshire terrier, disappeared on 12 October. Her owners, Rebecca and Mike Jones, said a neighbour reported seeing a woman leave a car, enter their property and take the dog.
The family was reunited with Ellie six days later after a woman brought her to an UrgentVet clinic in Warren. Staff scanned the dog’s microchip and contacted the Joneses.
The woman reportedly told the clinic that she had found Ellie after the dog had been struck by a car. However, veterinary staff described the injuries as extensive burns rather than those typically associated with a road accident.
Ellie was transferred to Oakland Veterinary Referral Services for specialist treatment. Reports said large areas of her body were affected and that she required intensive care, including bandaging and assistance with feeding.
The elderly dog is nearly deaf and blind, according to a missing-pet appeal posted by her family. She has now returned to her Warren home with the Joneses and their other dog, Lola.
Warren Police are investigating how Ellie came to be injured and are seeking information about her disappearance and recovery.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Palmer at the Warren Police Department on 586-574-4841.
