Three members of a family, including a child, have been found dead with apparent gunshot wounds inside a burning home in Maywood, California, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies and firefighters were called to a property in the 5000 block of East 61st Street at about 2.30am on Saturday after reports of a structure fire.
Once the flames had been extinguished, emergency crews searched the house and discovered the bodies of a man and woman in their late 40s and a boy aged under 10 in a bedroom. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s department said the adults were married and that the child was their biological son. A firearm was recovered from the property.
Investigators are treating the deaths as appearing to be domestic violence-related, although the circumstances remain under investigation. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or explained how the fire began.
The sheriff’s department said there was no ongoing threat to the wider community. Anyone with information has been urged to contact the department’s Homicide Bureau.
