Two men have been injured in a shooting in Dinkytown, Minneapolis, with one man arrested after officers found him carrying a handgun without a permit early on Sunday, 6 September.
Police were called to the area of 4th Street SE and 13th Avenue SE to assist University of Minnesota officers dealing with several disturbances. Officers heard gunfire and found two men with suspected gunshot wounds.
Both victims were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Several people were detained during the police response, while other handguns were recovered and kept as evidence. The arrested man was booked into Hennepin County Jail on a weapons offence.
Dinkytown shooting under investigation
The shooting happened in the same area as a separate stabbing early on Friday, 4 September. Police said an altercation between two people ended with one person being stabbed at about 2.30am near the junction of 4th Street SE and 13th Avenue SE.
The incidents occurred as students returned to the University of Minnesota campus ahead of the start of the autumn term on Tuesday, 8 September.
The latest shooting remains under investigation by Minneapolis police FAST investigators.
