El-Sayed called his opponent “weak”, “cowardly” and a “sock puppet for the Trump administration”. Rogers responded by describing El-Sayed as a “glitchy AI chatbot” running a “con” who would “say anything to win”. The hour-long contest in Grand Rapids was one of the most closely watched encounters in a race that could help decide control of the US Senate. The candidates are competing to replace retiring Democratic Senator…
The botched execution of Christa Pike has prompted a renewed debate over lethal injection in the United States, where experts say failed attempts are a frequent feature of capital punishment. Pike, who was sentenced to death for taking part in the murder of a classmate when she was 18, remained alive after two doses of pentobarbital were administered in Tennessee on September 30. Witnesses said she continued breathing, snoring and lifting parts of her body from the gurney. Her lawyers said she regained consciousness in hospital on October 6 and faces a long recovery. They had previously argued that Pike’s…

Questions have been raised over Los Angeles police tactics after an investigation found that officers had shot 67 dogs over the past decade, including 45 pit bulls.
