The FlyDubai co-pilot accused of attacking the captain and attempting to seize control of a flight bound for Israel had previously posted misogynistic and violent material online, including language associated with the so-called manosphere. Hamam al Hamami’s X account, which has since been deleted, contained posts made between November 2021 and late October 2022. Several used derogatory descriptions of women and criticised men who, in his words, “grovel” to them. In one post, al Hamami wrote: “No matter how much you grovel or ‘lick their feet,’ you can forget about ever being with them; you chose the cheap, easy route…
The number of people imprisoned in Britain for terrorism offences has reached a record high, with the majority classified as holding Islamist-extremist views, Home Office figures show. There were 275 people in custody for terrorism offences at the end of June, up 7 per cent on the previous year and above the previous record of 273 set at the end of March. The total is the highest recorded since comparable records began in 2010, when 126 people were imprisoned. Islamist extremism accounted for 57 per cent of those in prison for terrorism. A further 29 per cent were classified as…
Palantir chief executive Alex Karp has revealed that one of his senior executives told him to stop repeatedly promoting the potential of the company’s Foundry platform, warning that employees found the claims depressing and out of touch. Karp said Ted Mabrey, who now runs Palantir’s commercial business, told him: “Please stop talking to Palantirians about how big Foundry is going to be. It’s depressing, and everybody knows you’re out of touch.” He was speaking to Zeta Global chief executive David Steinberg at Zeta Live ’26, the company’s annual marketing conference. Karp said his constant enthusiasm for Foundry had begun to…

Manchester City have been tipped to beat Liverpool at Anfield, while Tottenham are backed to avoid defeat against Manchester United in Lewis Jones’s Premier League predictions for the weekend. Jones expects City to respond positively after being found guilty of serious financial-rule breaches across nine seasons by an independent Premier League commission. The club has appealed, meaning the sporting consequences have not yet been settled. He believes the verdict has not, so far, shown clear signs of destabilising Pep Guardiola’s squad. Guardiola has backed the club, while Erling Haaland has called for positivity, and City remain top of the Premier…

The Coalition’s plan to cut net overseas migration to 100,000 people a year has drawn scepticism from former immigration department deputy secretary Abul Rizvi, who said migrants were being blamed for problems that lay elsewhere in Australia’s economy. Speaking on an Inside Politics episode, Mr Rizvi said the migration system was “clogged” and processing times were slowing, but argued that the performance of permanent migrants did not support claims that they were responsible for weak productivity. Australian Bureau of Statistics data tracking permanent migrants who arrived since 2000 showed they were, on average, more highly qualified, more likely to be…

She recently said Brazil nuts were being overlooked after finding them discarded during a fridge inspection involving businesswoman Lauren Cowell. The Trump administration’s red-dyed diesel tax deferral is being criticised by energy analysts and trucking groups as a political gesture rather than a meaningful answer to diesel prices above $6 a gallon during the Iran war. President Donald Trump signed an executive order deferring taxes on the fuel until the end of the year. Red-dyed diesel is generally used by farmers and truckers, but is exempt from highway fuel taxes and cannot legally be used on public roads. The fuel’s distinctive dye allows inspectors to identify vehicles suspected of avoiding road-fuel taxes. The measure temporarily removes a 24.4-cent-per-gallon charge, theoretically…
